YouTube

Since we went online with Zoom, we simultaneously started streaming our talks on YouTube, for people who wanted a simpler experience. It has been fraught with trepidation after the first event when the stream dropped and people on YouTube were missing the talk.

The stats show that the bandwidth for the stream drops perilously low at times and we have an Admin permanently watching in case it needs restarting.

We have been trying to get Zoom to look into this for best part of a year and they finally seem to be getting somewhere, at least in understanding the problem. It appears that when we are showing static slides, rather than cameras and faces, there is far less data to send from Zoom but Youtube thinks it is not getting enough.

Hopefully they will find a fix soon to end the headache. Probably by the time we can resume live events…
